Sustainability, part of our DNA.
Some 40 years ago we launched our first plant-based products, long before the hype. What started as a crazy dream to help save the planet through healthy food turned into a worldwide plant-based revolution. We are all sharing the same planet. Let us make sure we keep our planet healthy for future generations to enjoy. Together we keep pushing ourselves to do better.
Sustainability is about investing in long-lasting relationships with our colleagues, our customers, consumers and suppliers, the communities surrounding us but also people living on the other side of the world. After all, we are one big global community.
Our focus on the planet as a vital stakeholder has not gone unnoticed. Alpro is leading the way towards a more sustainable and regenerative planet by putting our impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity first in our business practices. That work has had wonderful results: our B Corp score for the environment is one of the top 5% in our size group worldwide!
This is so much more than just a badge of honor. It represents the opportunity to collectively transform the global economic system to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. And this is how we acted:
Alpro Pledge: promise and act
Plant-based foods have low environmental impacts on CO2 emissions, water use and land use. They are both intrinsically healthy and intrinsically sustainable. By mainstreaming these innovative plant-based foods, we are creating ‘shared value’: we offer products that benefit society and the environment as well as the economy.

Sourcing the Alpro way
Our soya is 100% Proterra certified. It is a label applied only to ecologically sustainable, social responsible and non-GMO sourced soyabeans. There is zero deforestation associated to our soya. Therefore, all our soya-based products are recognized for having positive outcomes on natural environments. Our almonds are sourced in the Mediterranean region, mainly rainfed. We have been studying the planetary boundaries of growing almonds since 2018 with WWF. Now we’re implementing the measures with local nature organizations through roadmaps for more biodiversity and context-based water targets setting in almond orchards. Furthermore, we have kicked-off a collaboration with our suppliers and external experts that aims to identify and promote pollinator-friendly products and production systems that will be applied to all our almonds by 2025.
Zero Impact Operations
As a pioneer in plant-based products, Alpro continues to show its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and this permeates all we do.
In the past 10 years, we have significantly reduced our carbon emissions. Between 2010 and 2020 we have achieved a large decrease in direct carbon emissions: over 35% of carbon emissions per product linked mainly to the energy consumption in factories.
We use 100% renewable electricity across all our production sites.
Our ambition of Zero Impact Operations demonstrates the progress made in our factories to reduce the impacts of waste, water, energy and carbon on the environment.
Water use and reuse, regenerative agriculture and circular packaging are a crucial part of our 2025 commitments. In our operations this is apparent through the environmental management system that actively focuses on measuring and reducing the water and energy use as well as reducing the creation of waste and GHG emissions.
