Our ingredients
All our soya beans are and will always be non-GMO. 100% of our organic beans and over 50% of our conventional beans are grown in Europe (mostly France). And the rest we get from Canada – they’ve been growing brilliant beans there for years. It’s true, these travel quite a long way to get to our factory in Belgium, we ship them across the Atlantic by boat.
We also work with our growers to promote good farming practices – like including soya beans in their crop rotation to keep nitrogen in the soil, so that less fertilizer is needed. Plus, all our beans can be tracked from seed to serve. We have a system audited and certified according to the ProTerra standard by the independent organization, Food chain ID and we know where every bean has been. So enjoy the soya!
All our almonds have been lovingly grown around the sunny shores of the Mediterranean. And we know that almonds can be thirsty which is why we make sure our almonds are all mostly watered by rain*. In the minority of orchards where irrigation is needed, drip-irrigation is used. This is considered the best practice for sustainable water use.
On top of that, we are working to implement pilots with our farmers to put in place even better ways of doing things to promote and protect biodiversity, to protect bees, restore biodiversity and soil health of the orchards whilst increasing the resilience of our farmers, especially regarding water scarcity.
*Based on a peer-reviewed life cycle assessment, by Quantis in 2022 of Alpro Almond vs milk in EU. Almonds are a thirsty crop. Mediterranean almonds represent 80% of the total water consumption of this product and use more land than irrigated almonds. Our almonds get at least 2/3 of the water they need from rain. 100% of our oats are grown in Europe - in countries such as France, UK and Finland, keeping food miles low. Pretty oatsome!
Oat is a sustainable crop, with little ecological impact compared to other cereals. No extra watering is required, and only limited use of fertilizers is needed*. yet we can and we want do better: we are launching with external partners a 360° approach project to support the transition toward regenerative agriculture (Navarre360 program).

Discover our almond drinks from nut to glass

ALMOND PREPARATION - ROASTING, SOAKING, CRUSHING
The first step in making our delicious Alpro Almond drinks is to soak the almonds in water. This ensures that they’re thoroughly cleaned. To bring out their natural nutty flavour, the almonds are lightly roasted, before being finely crushed and combined with water to create the ultimate super delicious blend.

OATS AND WATER MIXED AND MILLED TOGETHER
As a first step oats are dehusked, ground, and pressed to create the basis for our delicious oat drinks. They reach us here at Alpro as oat flour and they’re then mixed and milled together with water in our factory to create that smooth and silky texture. The ingredients used retain many of the nutrients from the oats.

BEANS PREPARATION!
Our soya drinks are made from the whole soya beans, which are first dehulled and then soaked in water for several hours. This cleans them and makes the blending process easier - which results in our signature smooth and creamy texture. They are then soaked in water and ground.
Stabilisers, thickeners and emulsifiers
We occasionally include ingredients such as stabilisers, thickeners and emulsifiers, to make our foods look and taste even more delicious. But rest assured that there are some things you’ll never, ever find in any Alpro product – preservatives, artificial sweeteners and colourings.
Stabilisers help our drinks flow smoothly and give our plant-based alternatives to yogurt a creamy texture. They maintain food texture or colour, prevent liquids from separating and preserve natural colour.
Thickeners do just as their name suggests – they make foods thicker and creamier. And that's especially useful for low in fat plant-based food, just a little thickener can add that luxurious touch that makes a dessert so delicious.
We add just the right amount of emulsifier to keep our drinks perfectly blended and oh-so-smooth. Think of an emulsifier as a little matchmaker! It has one end that loves water (hydrophilic) and one end that prefers oil (hydrophobic). In simpler terms, it’s like a tiny tie that brings water and oil together, holding hands and making sure they stay happily mixed. Cheers to that!

We produce our delicious drinks in 3 productions facilities: Alpro Issenheim, Kettering and Wevelgem sites. They all run on 100% renewable electricity. And with our Danone Re-Fuel program of the Danone Impact Journey, aligned to our 1.5° GHG reduction rodmap, we are doubling down on efficiency and doubling up on renewable energy.
